Fake Frida Kahlo – The story of a photomontage
The photo of an armed, lascivious Frida Kahlo has been circulating on the net for years. The fact that the image is a photomontage doesn’t make it any less attractive. The emotionally charged, sepia-colored fake image has been circulating on the web for years, shared and liked millions of times.
The other day it was that time again: Madonna posted on Instagram another now quite famous photo of Frida Kahlo, in which the painter looks confidently into the eyes of the viewer, her décolleté wide open, a cartridge belt around her waist and a revolver in her lowered hands. To this the singer wrote: “Happy Birthday to this Bad Bad Bitch! Viva La Revolucion!” Almost 250,000 followers liked the photo, which is more likes than the singer usually receives for a selfie. Maybe that’s why Madonna didn’t post the photo for the first time. It all just fits together so well: Frida, the strong, erotic and stylish woman who knows how to defend herself, Madonna, who sees herself exactly like that.
